Who is TLA

TLA was established in 2008 and has gone from strength to strength. Keeping performance real, we strive to deliver industry leading training to all of our students and offer them great opportunities along the way! Whether they are coming to train to further enhance their careers, gain confidence, or just to make friends and have a great time, there is something for everyone at TLA. Wrap Management is the Agency that TLA students are given the opportunity to be represented by. With our students put forward for auditions weekly, we have an impressive back catalogue of success in TV, Film and Theatre!

In 2019, TLA introduced the Street Dance Class which went onto compete and took 1st in their category after only 5 months training together. Street team teacher Erin is a champion, award winning dancer and owing to the success of her team ‘Origin’ has created a younger team ‘Genesis’ who will also compete in 2021!

New to 2020 is our Contemporary Dance workshops, which run every 10 weeks! This is proving to be extremely popular too! They are also hoping to compete in 2021!

TLA runs private singing, LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) and dance lessons and can cater for all your performing needs. Visit our website for more details at www.tlacademy.uk or visit on facebook @TLAcademyLeeds to book a free trial! Come and join our family of performers!

Tonicha Dobre – Principal

Tonicha started the company back in 2008 having carved a television career in ‘Emmerdale’ and touring the UK in REP theatre and musicals. More recently she returned to the small screen in ‘Casualty’ and ‘Holby City’ as the tremulous ‘Steph Simms’. She is an advocate for realism in acting and develops the older members of the academy preparing them for drama schools both home and abroad. Tonicha’s ‘Screen’ class is particularly popular with all ages.

Jennifer Whittaker

Jennifer began her career on the stage at 11 and has since toured nationally, performing on London’s West End; at The Bradford Alhambra; The Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough and many other UK wide venues. Jennifer’s passion for teaching was her driving force behind gaining her degree qualifications in Business Management and Musical Theatre, as well as LAMDA, LCMM and BBO – all prestigious awarding bodies for the arts. She is the director of LAMDA (acting and musical theatre examining board) at TLA and develops the younger students in the school teaching the many needed skills and techniques to progress.
