About

Collingam and Linton Sports Association (CALSA) exists to provide playing and participating opportunities for cricket, football, squash, racketball and other sporting activities for the inhabitants of Collingham, Linton and the neighbouring areas.

Members of the cricket, football and squash/racketball sections are automatically members of CALSA, which is owned by its membership and managed by an elected committee of representatives from the sports sections.

As a ‘Community Amateur Sports Club’  we are obliged to reinvest any surpluses back into our sporting sections. Our constitution reflects this obligation as well as setting out in detail the rules by which we are run.  A copy of the constitution can be seen by clicking here.

The Management Committee that runs the association on a day to day basis is formed of:

  • An elected President
  • Three elected officers – a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer
  • Representatives of each of the three full sporting sections – cricket, football and squash – nominated by the sections.

Other individuals are sometimes asked to attend meetings, including some co-opted to represent particular views or affiliated clubs.  These individuals have no voting powers.

Club House

We have a great tradition and heritage of sporting excellence dating back to the original cricket club of the 1880’s.  There are now three full sporting sections and three further affiliated sports clubs.

Our clubhouse bar overlooks the squash courts and cricket pitch.  Click here, to find our more about the bar area.

History

CALSA was formed originally to bring the Cricket and Football Clubs together in order to develop sport and the facilities for the village and for future generations. This included the introduction of Squash – an initiative  which was to become the financial saviour of many sports clubs,

Some senior members of the Cricket Club Management Committee didn’t agree with the proposals and stood down, as they felt that we were undertaking too big a financial commitment. They subsequently all agreed (when CALSA was formed and the clubhouse built) that they were wrong and it was the way forward.

It was also a very big decision for the Parish Council under the Chairmanship of Wilf Barker, but they could obviously see the possibilities for the future and threw their whole weight behind the project.

It was the Cricket Club that brought the idea to the table as it was recognised that Cricket was becoming increasingly expensive to run. They had feared for the future of their Club and their ongoing ability to maintain the first class facilities in which both the Cricket Club and the Parish Council took such pride.

30 years on this is still the aim of CALSA. Today we have two affiliated sections (Collingham Tennis Club and Boston Spa Hockey Club) that also come under the umbrella of CALSA.

CALSA are heavily committed to Junior Sport in all sections, as well as providing sport for all adult ages.
